Amateur Winemaking

The American Wine Society has a proud heritage of amateur winemaking and it continues today.  Almost one third of AWS members make their own wine and over 400 amateur wines were entered in the 2012 AWS Amateur Wine Competition.   Out of this 400+ wines, 22 Double Gold and 28 Gold medals were awarded, testifying to the skills of these talented winemakers.

We established a Winemaking Committee to put more emphasis on providing value to our amateur winemakers.  We are now working on material and programs that will help our winemakers hone their skills and help new winemakers learn the basics. Look for announcements and watch this page of the website for further information.

Winemaking Articles in AWS Wine Journals

The Editor of the AWS Wine Journal strives to have at least one winemaking article in every issue.   The link below will take AWS Members to a page to the links for all articles published in 2010 - 2012.  We hope you enjoy them and they help you improve your winemaking skills.  If you have any suggestions for future articles, please contact us at executivedirector@americanwinesociety.org
