Chapter Locations & Starting a Chapter

American Wine Society Chapters

AWS Chapters are forums for wine-loving members to share experiences and learn about wine. They are the backbone of AWS.

Chapters organize wine tastings and other events to suit members' interests, ranging from serious wine tastings to winemaking to social events and food pairings. The possibilities are limitless, and nearly all chapters are thrilled to welcome new members and visitors who want to check them out before joining.

AWS members are not required to be in a chapter, but tasting and learning about wine is a lot more fun if you do it with friends!

The AWS has more than 150 chapters across the country. Find one near you by zooming in on the map below, or click the view larger map icon, and then at the top left, click the search icon and enter your zip code or location. Once you locate a chapter, email the national office or call 888-AWS-9070 to ask about visiting or joining a chapter.

Don't see a chapter near you? See below and then contact the national office to learn how easy it is to start one!

Starting a New AWS Chapter

The American Wine Society has chapters in many cities across the U.S., but if there isn’t one near you, starting one is as easy as 1-2-3.

  1. The starting point is the AWS National Office. You can reach us at executivedirector@americanwinesociety.org or memberservice@americanwinesociety.org or call us at 888-AWS-9070. We can help you with any materials and guidance you may need.
  2. Next: In your neighborhood… You want to find other wine lovers in your area. The people you know are a starting point. We can give you tips on how to do this.
  3. Meet, organize and taste.... Pick a date, location and theme for your first meeting. Get to know everyone and encourage them to become AWS members. Talk about a name for your chapter and who will be the Chairperson.

That's all there is to it!  Now, let the National Office know the name and Chairperson and we will put your chapter on our list.   To be certified as an official AWS Chapter you must:

  • Have at least eight AWS members and be actively conducting chapter events

  • Enforce the AWS policy of limiting guests to three events before requiring them to join AWS

  • Conduct chapter activities in accordance with the AWS missionappreciation of wine through education

For a more in-depth look at starting a new chapter, check out Starting an AWS Chapter.

Want more information? Ready to start? Contact the National Office.  We're always eager to help people kick off new chapters!
