Please join us on Thursday, November 2nd as we travel from the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, down into the Lehigh Valley wine country. The Lehigh Valley is the largest and fastest-growing wine region in Pennsylvania. The north and western parts of the Lehigh Valley have ideal terroir for growing cool-climate whites, and Bordeaux- and Burgundy-style reds. We will visit five of the wineries in the region, where we will taste wines made from French, Italian, German and French-American hybrid varietals.

Our first stop will be Blair Vineyards, overlooking the Blue Mountains on the western end of the Lehigh Valley. We will explore the three levels of the gravity-flow winery and sample one of their wines still in the tank or barrel. Blair Vineyards is notorious for its multi-clone and multi-vineyard Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, blended to perfection to maintain consistency and longevity year to year.

Pinnacle Ridge Winery is in a rustic barn built in 1851. The winery has a long reputation for diverse wines of very high quality produced entirely from local grapes.  Among its many awards are a gold–medal, best-in-class Traminette at the 2017 LA International Wine Competition and three governor’s cups for sparkling and Bordeaux-blended reds. Pinnacle Ridge Winery produces German-style whites, Bordeaux reds and three Methode-Champenoise sparkling wines.

Folino Estate Vineyard and Winery is just across the street from Pinnacle Ridge Winery. It is the newest winery on our tour, but by far the most physically impressive, sprawling over 54 acres of vineyards and gardens. Emphasis is on Italian-style wines made in the Lehigh Valley. We will be served a delicious buffet lunch in one of the banquet halls.

After lunch, we will head to Vynecrest Vineyards & Winery, a second-generation winery located in a Swiss bank barn, nestled in the heart of the Lehigh Valley. Vynecrest has over four decades of perfecting authentic Pennsylvania wines.

Our last stop is Weathered Vineyards, nestled in the rolling hills on the northern edge of the Lehigh Valley. Its slightly cooler climate adds a nice crisp and acidic flair to its wines made from locally grown grapes.

                                                    Lehigh Valley AVA

On this tour, we will only taste wines that have been made from estate-grown grapes or locally grown grapes from the Lehigh Valley. We want you to experience the true ambiance and authenticity of this up-and-coming American Viticultural Area. Wineries in the region are permitted to list “Lehigh Valley” as their growing region on their labels. This AVA is growing in quantity of wineries and has a reputation for producing excellent wines.

The wineries in the Lehigh Valley are located in an ideal grape-growing environment, as evidenced by the countless national and international awards they have won. The region’s family-owned wineries have also brought home the Governor’s Cup for Pennsylvania’s best wine in nine of the last 10 years. We hope you will join the AWS in this exclusive tour.

The cost of this tour is $59 per person.

The bus is scheduled to leave the Kalahari Resort Thursday at 8 a.m. and return at 5 p.m. in plenty of time to get ready for the 50th anniversary celebration reception and dinner.

The price includes transportation in a deluxe motor coach bus. The bus features high–back, reclining, individual seats, a DVD player with monitor, and PA/sound system.

It also includes your tasting fees, lunch and a tip to the bus driver. You are welcome to tip more at your discretion.

Prizes will be awarded for participating in a Lehigh Valley wine trivia game on the way back to Kalahari Resort!
